Our little lockdown hotel experience →
We have found that one of our biggest talking points during lockdown has been where and how to find a little bit of personal space within your home. A place to find peace and calmness, the perfect little breakaway area
As we get older and more stressed here at Team Botanika, we sometimes find ourselves dreaming and longing for travelling to beautiful out of the ordinary hotels with soft natural woven sheets and an added scent of lavender generously sprayed onto our pillows. Freshly cut flowers and of course an endless supply of coffee and wine. The list is endless.
Let’s be honest, there is nothing nicer and more luxurious than a comfortable hotel room.
A girl can dream.
We do however realize, that for now, these dreams are unfortunately temporarily on hold. But then again why not make our bedrooms at home, our own extraordinary personalized hotel rooms.
When choosing items for ourselves or clients we always try to support local brands. It is something we have always taken seriously and will continue to do so in the future. This is also our mantra when applied to our own personal spaces.
I was slightly nervous to show the worldwide web my bedroom, as I felt I haven’t found the perfect suited artwork I always dream of, and I do sometimes find myself wondering if it is as “complete” as I would like it to be. The thing is sometimes as a designer it takes a long time to make things “perfect”. The process is long with a few added creative tweaks. My mind has had a shift and my thought process has changed during the lockdown. It’s made me realize my bedroom is perfect - it is the perfect space for me.
I often find myself reading here, catching up with a friend on Facetime or having a sneaky afternoon nap, and I come out feeling the same rejuvenated feeling I get when staying at a hotel.
We always give our clients the best guidance on how to create the perfect bedroom, but your bedroom is also very personal space. Keeping this in mind, we pride ourselves on making the rooms for each client express their personality. What we can do is give you a few small tips on how to find what works for you.
Some Botanika tips to use:
- Get that scented candle or lavender room spray. It will calm you even if it is just for a moment. I also find that a good steam diffuser always helps for a subtle scent.
- Find what bed linen works for you. I find the softer and more natural the better.
- Make sure you have some good lighting. Natural lighting for during the day and good décor lighting for setting a nighttime mood.
- Try to keep the room clean and organized it will automatically become a space that calms you.
- If you can get your hands on some scatter cushions with prints or colours that make you happy. Go for it! We often find sourcing fabrics for scatters brings us a lot of happiness as it adds the client’s personality to the room and can often in most cases tie the entire room scheme together.
- Add in a lovely dressing table if you have the space to accommodate this.
- Nothing wrong with a few simple accessories for a cosy atmosphere. Some added rugs, wall mirrors and plants for décor.
- 1 or 2 soft wool throws for those cold and rainy reading days.
- Finally, it’s also handy to have an Alexa for your morning news, audiobooks or tranquil background music. The choice is yours.
All the above comes together nicely and works for the perfect bedroom combo.
So, with all this in mind here is my little hotel space. I have tagged all of the South African brands in the room. Please have a look at their profiles should you wish to invest in something large or small for your “hotel space “.
